S.T.E.M. is an acronym that stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This program is a solution to our country’s need to remain a competitive force among the world’s leading nations.  Classes are taught in a cross-curricular manner rather than in isolation of each other. What your student learns in one class is reinforced in all of their classes.

Learning, through the STEM Program now has vision and meaning. Students are exposed to and consider career choices in the STEM program, so that by the time they enter the workforce, they will be able to contribute solutions to the world’s global and economic challenges.    The STEM program is for 6th, 7th and 8th graders who will be with the same student and teacher cohort throughout their middle school experience.  All STEM classes are advanced placement courses.

Our program is modeled after the national standards of practice for career academies.  We are a school within a school that links students with peers, teachers, and community partners in a structured environment that fosters academic success.  The career academy concept has three key elements:

  • Small Learning Community (class size around 22)
  • A high school/college prep curriculum with engineering theme
  • An advisory board that forges partnerships with colleges and the community
